croda da lago - cortinaThere are many possibilities of trekking in Cortina d’Ampezzo, but this one is particularly interesting because varied and very scenic, it develops around famous mountains, photographed and filmed every year by thousands of hikers, climbers and skiers.

A trek through millennia of history of the men who attended the valley of Cortina d’Ampezzo. We pass from the burial of the man of Mondeval, across the borders between an Empire and a Republic, we will visit the places of the events of World War One, ending with some famous Hollywood and Cinecittà film backgrounds.

A trek that touches rocks of very different geological eras: from the first coral reefs, to the volcanic rocks, to the main dolomite. And finally a taste of the results of the last ice age: erosion, moraine and debris.

A trek just outside the worldly curtain, which will lead us to discover the presence of life-forms dating back to 220 million years ago: together we will look for fossils and dinosaur footprints, and we’ll pass on the lands where a few year ago fossil amber was found. (download documentation). This amber has retained inside a diptera and two species of mites, like the Triasacarus Fedele (named after a local researcher).

The first section crosses the plateau of Mondeval, green pastures known for the famous and important Mesolithic burial.
The second day we explore the area of Mount Averau and the Cinque Torri (“Five Towers”), theatre of the events of the First World War, where we can visit the barracks and walk through the trenches to understand what life was 100 years ago in the mountains of Cortina d’Ampezzo.
On the last day we leave the area of Lagazuoi, also important site with testimonies of the First World War, to pass at the feet of the 1.000 meters of dolomite of the Tofana di Rozes.
