SNOWSHOEING AT RIFUGIO DIBONA
Snowshoeing at rifugio Dibona on the traces of the triassic amber
Resin: the fossil one of the triassic amber and the sweet-smelling fresh one of the stone pines. Snowshoeing at rifugio Dibona, walking at the foot of the mighty south wall of Tofana di Rozes, allows you to try both the experiences.

What could you do in winter in Cortina d’Ampezzo? Snowshoeing at rifugio Dibona allows you to know different aspects of the local culture.
The ubiquitous geology, if our eyes are attracted by the verticality of the mighty south wall of Tofana di Rozes, scientists look at the tiny droplets of amber which testify to the climate of the Triassic age.
The surname Dibona is linked to great mountaineers, in particular to Angelo Dibona, a symbol of early 20th century climbing. To celebrate his importance in the mountaineering, the mountain hut at the foot of the Tofane bears the same name; there is also a bronze statue in the center of Cortina d’Ampezzo, very close to the bell tower.
The ancient and wise management of the territory reveals itself in the well maintained woods and in the small shelters that were used by herders and woodsmen.
Also the history of the last century is everywhere. In these places in 1915 there have been different battles between the imperial troops of the Austrian Empire and the royal army of the Italian Kingdom. This has happened only to conquer some bare rocks.
Least but not last, the dolomitic cuisine is a must in this area: a trait d’union between the Mediterranean and the German cuisine; in part a review of the recipes with mountain ingredients, in part is full of unique features and nuances.
The proposed excursion is ring-shaped and gives the opportunity to approach and browse different aspects that make this corner of Ampezzo truly unique. There is also the possibility to reach rifugio DIbona by a snowmobile, skipping the climb and still being able to enjoy the beauty of the mountain in winter.
