TOFANA DI ROZES
Tofana di Rozes: a symbol, an exciting destination
Reaching a dolomite summit is always a great satisfaction: reaching the top of the Tofana di Rozes is a unique experience. Dominating on Cortina d’Ampezzo, mighty and severe, seems inaccessible and unreachable, but in reality it is allowed to conquer and admire even closely.
The Tofana di Rozes strikes not only the gaze, but also the heart of those who arrive in Cortina d’Ampezzo for the first time. Its silhouette is visible from faraway and captures the attention and curiosity: high, powerful, with red vertical walls, which do not allow to see access roads.
Yet there is a way to reach the top: challenging and at the same time fascinating. The scenery is always amazing and interesting, during the whole ascent: spires of rock, verticality, scree, war stations and, if you are lucky, many chamois and fossil shells.
The step of those who intend to face the top of the Tofana di Rozes must be sure, both uphill and downhill. Especially in the central section of the itinerary, where, after leaving the Hut Giussani, the ascent to the summit is attacked. Here often the path is not well decipherable and the gravel resting on the rock makes the support not stable.
At the Hut Giussani and along the itinerary that leads to the top of the Tofana di Rozes you can breathe a very special air: this is a real meeting point for fans of the mountain of “different extraction”, if you allow us the term. Kind of a crossroads. Here, in fact, there are walkers who climb from Hut Dibona, here pass by those who have climbed the south walls of Tofana di Rozes and are now descending, those who descend from the “via ferrata” above and who arrives from the long Val Travenanzes.
That Panorama is disclosed at the top: the verticality above the Val Travenanzes is such that it seems to fly! It is incredible at what distance the gaze is pushed: you can embrace all the Dolomites, the glaciers of the ridge seem to hand, to the east the Carnic Alps and on clear days you can also intuit the massifs of the Rhaetian Alps.
