Mietres Hut: a panoramic terrace on Cortina

Hike that allows you to enjoy a splendid panorama on Cortina d’Ampezzo without making too much effort. This itinerary crosses the eastern part of the valley, is sunny and reaches Mietres Hut, where you can taste tasty typical dishes and truly special sweets.

For those who do not like racing and want to enjoy the day in relax, this itinerary is ideal! Once you arrive at the altitude with the cable car, we walk through a wide variety of environments, where many wildlife live. Luxuriant woods of fir trees, larches, wetlands, where there are deer, roe deer and foxes. The panorama on Cortina is just satisfying.

The first part of the path is always at the altitude, on the sunny slopes of Mount Faloria. It will not be the most majestic mountain in the valley, but “ab antiquo”, was considered the home of the Sun God, and his name was “Ciasadiò”. At the foot of Mount Faloria Rinaldo Zardini, eminent scholar, found fossil corals and finally in his eyes revealed the triaxial atolls that are now the mountains that we see around us. After being warmed in the sun, you cross a pasture-rice, the grass is “mowed” every day by numerous gardeners on all fours: the cows that graze peacefully between one tree and the other.
Continuing on you arrive at the Mietres Hut, at the foot of Monte Cristallo, and then walk back to the centre of Cortina.

It is not only an itinerary to be tasted (or bored, depends on the points of view) learning geology and management of pastures: it also passes through two huts and two “malga”, therefore the opportunities to satisfy the palate will not fail.
