LASTOI DE FORMIN
Unknown Lastoi de Formin: an excursion between history and wilderness
Beauty icon of the Dolomites: the Lastoi de Formin are impressive banks of dolomite that rest on green and rich meadows. We will reach the summit, crossing an ancient lagoon 230 million years old.
The Lastoi de Formin are a classic icon of the landscape of the Dolomites: observed and photographed by Passo Giau are imposing dolomite cliffs, resting on green meadows rich in water and animals. But we want to make you go beyond this image and bring you to discover a hidden corner of this magnificent coral reef. A little beaten path along a natural gateway through the rocks. A magical place, where a few isolated stone pines are ancient witnesses and guardians.
Lastoi of Formin unknown to the masses, Formin rich in history and anecdotes concerning the conquest of the pastures by neighboring communities, Formin where the contact with the rock will bring us back of 230 million years.
Once we reach the Punta Lastoi de Formin we will have an incredible panorama around us: The green meadows of Mondeval with the Lake of Baste, the imposing Pelmo, the plateau of the Pale di San Martino, the Marmolada in the distance and towards Ampezzo Lagazuoi and Tofane in the foreground. The verticality and fragility of the pinnacles that make up the Mount Croda da Lago are always a source of wonder.
A very varied itinerary, which will make us appreciate the beauty of walking on a plateau of rock, immersed in an almost lunar landscape and that will take us on the way back to relax in green meadows grooved by a cool stream.
Not far away lied in the meadow of Mondeval you can see the huge boulder under which was found an important burial dating back to the Mesolithic. It seems that in the whole area under the Formin, in the meadows of Mondeval, there are 21 areas in which were found traces of the passage of man from Mesolithic epoch.
If you are interested, we propose a itinerary dedicated to the footprints of dinosaurs and the discovery of the Mesolithic burial in Mondeval.
