Setsass peak: circumnavigate an ancient coral reef that today is located at 2’500 meters altitude. We are in the Dolomites and this is possible! An itinerary that tells us about geology with fascination and spectacularity.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\"setsass<\/a>The Setsass peak is a mountain made up of several peaks and from the nearest village you can see exactly seven. They are a point of reference for the history of geology, and this is not a little value considering the fact that we are in the Dolomites.<\/p>\n

In fact, the Dolomites are a World Heritage site for geology and landscape, so geology is everywhere. However,Setsass peak is one of the cornerstones of geology. It is one of the first areas studied in the Dolomites and one of the many spurs is called “Richtofen Cliff”, as a tribute to the eminent geologist who first understood how it was formed. This gave way to the evolution of the study of the earth sciences.<\/p>\n

The tour of the Settsass peak touches on geological aspects both ancient (260 million years) and recent (10.000 years). The dolomite rocks that were bio-built in the Triassic seas, are now peaks that exceed 3,000 m of altitude. We will learn together how the rocks were born, how they came to constitute the mountains and the processes that slowly shape them; We will begin, therefore, to read the rocks like geologists do.<\/p>\n

Along the route that circumnavigates the Setsass peak there are also important testimonies of the World War One. This was a strategic point, so close to the famous events of the mine of Mount Col di Lana and Mount Sief. It will be possible to view the museum created inside a massive fortification and see clothing and instruments of the time.<\/p>\n

This excursion allows you to enjoy an ever new landscape, depending on the side of the Setsass peak along which you are walking and then the valley on which you overlook: Val Badia towards the north, Fodom to the south, the Cortina d’Ampezzo basin to the east.<\/p>\n
