They probably need no introduction so we will offer a journey backwards in time made up of quick flashes, an entirely incomplete snapshot of this extraordinary area. If you want, come along with us on this journey and keep reading!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class='list circle animate_list'>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Now you<\/strong> know the Unesco Dolomites as they are famous the world over: you\u2019ve seen photographs of wonderful places and you can\u2019t wait to come and see for yourself so that you can see, remember and perhaps immortalise these landscapes yourself.<\/li>\n<li><b>Since 2019<\/b> we have <span class=\"tlid-translation translation\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">gained the qualification of<\/span><\/span> IML (<b>International Mountain Leader<\/b>), <span class=\"tlid-translation translation\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">according to the high standards of the <a href=\"https:\/\/uimla.org\/\"><strong>UIMLA<\/strong><\/a> (Union of International Mountain Leaders Association), an international association that gather together mountain professionals.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>In 2017 we<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dolomitix.com\/en\/chiara-and-claudio\/\">Chiara and Claudio<\/a>, completed our Mountain Leader training.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In 2009 UNESCO<\/strong> declared the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dolomitiunesco.info\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dolomites Natural World Heritage<\/a> site.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In 1963<\/strong> the film The Pink Panther was shot in Cortina d\u2019Ampezzo. Many films have been set in Cortina and give glimpses of unforgettable landscapes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In 1857<\/strong> John Ball climbed to the peak of Mount Pelmo, the advent of Dolomite mountaineering history.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In 1791<\/strong> D\u00e9odat de Dolomieu discovered Dolomite, a sedimentary rock differing from the already well known limestone.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In 1779,<\/strong> border between the Holy Roman Empire and the Venetian Serenissima Republic.<\/li>\n<li><strong>7000 years ago<\/strong> lived the man whose burial site was found at Mondeval di Sopra.<\/li>\n<li><strong>9700 years ago<\/strong> the last ice age, Wurm, ended.<\/li>\n<li><strong>12,000 years ago<\/strong>, despite the glaciers, man spent time in the Dolomites. An Epigravettian era burial site has been found near the Villabruna shelter in Val Cismon.<\/li>\n<li><strong>110,000 years ago<\/strong> the last ice age began.<\/li>\n<li><strong>65,000,000 years ago<\/strong>, the dinosaurs became extinct.<\/li>\n<li><strong>220,000,000 years ago<\/strong> the dinosaurs pastured in the Dolomites and left their footprints here.<\/li>\n<li><strong>255.000.000 years ago<\/strong>\u00a0started the deposition of Val Gardena Sandstone, it\u2019s the first geological formation of the Dolomites.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">DOLOMITES WORLD HERITAGE SITE<\/h2>\n<div style=\"margin-top:20px;margin-bottom:20px;\" class=\"separator\"><\/div>\nThe Dolomites were granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 2009 for their <strong>unique geological and landscape features<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Point VII<\/strong> of UNESCO\u2019s declaration of exceptional universal value requires sites to &#8220;<em>encompass superlative natural phenomenon and areas of exceptional natural beauty and aesthetic importance<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>It is an established fact that the UNESCO Dolomites are generally considered one of the most beautiful mountain landscapes in the world.<br \/>\nUnique and instantly recognisable, the Dolomites feature strong <strong>colour contrasts<\/strong> between their green meadows and bare rock and their overwhelming beauty derives from the juxtaposition between the <strong>great variety<\/strong> of vertical rock formations and its many horizontal surfaces such as ledges and high plateaux.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dolomitix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/mappa-dolomiti-unesco.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-146\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dolomitix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/mappa-dolomiti-unesco-300x181.jpg\" alt=\"unesco dolomites map\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dolomitix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/mappa-dolomiti-unesco-300x181.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.dolomitix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/mappa-dolomiti-unesco-768x464.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.dolomitix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/mappa-dolomiti-unesco.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><strong>Point VIII<\/strong> of UNESCO\u2019s declaration of exceptional universal value requires sites to \u201c<em>constitute exceptional examples representing the most important phases in the earth&#8217;s history&#8230;<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>From both the geomorphological and geological points of view, the Dolomites are an open air book telling of <strong>300,000 years of history<\/strong> in a very detailed, accessible and easy to read way. There is nothing accidental about the fact that they have been a geological reference point since the dawn of geology.<\/p>\n<p>The UNESCO Dolomites are a <strong>&#8216;serial&#8217; site<\/strong> because they take the form of a unitary whole of <strong>9 areas<\/strong>.
